The Center for Applied Research in Islamic Economics and Finance at Ibn Haldun University and the Department of Economics co-hosted a two-part academic program with Prof. Asad Zaman on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

In the first part of the program, Prof. Zaman delivered a seminar titled “Reclaiming Economics as a Moral Science: An Islamic Approach to Monetary Reform” at YBF B-21. The seminar addressed the need to rethink economics as a moral science, critically examined modern economic assumptions, and discussed the possibilities of monetary reform from an Islamic perspective.

Following the seminar, the program continued with an open talk at the Econ Lounge under the theme “Rethinking Social Sciences and Economics Beyond the Mainstream”. This session provided a more informal and interactive setting for discussing how social sciences and economics may be reconsidered beyond mainstream frameworks.

The program offered students and faculty members a productive space for both theoretical and critical engagement. Through Prof. Zaman’s contributions, the seminar and open talk enabled participants to reflect on Islamic economics, monetary systems, economic methodology, and the moral foundations of the social sciences from alternative perspectives.
