The webinar titled “The Development of Islamic Finance in Pakistan”, co-organized by the Center for Applied Research in Islamic Economics and Finance and the Department of Economics at Ibn Haldun University, was held online on Friday, June 26, 2026. The webinar featured Prof. Shafiullah Jan from the Centre for Excellence in Islamic Finance (CEIF) at the Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences).
The webinar explored the development of Islamic finance in Pakistan with reference to institutional and regulatory infrastructure, Islamic banking and finance, participatory financing models, case studies, and the broader perspective of Islamic economics. The Pakistan experience was discussed not only in terms of financial products and market practices, but also in relation to education, research, institutional capacity, development, ethical principles, and real-economy impact.
Prof. Shafiullah Jan addressed the historical development and current directions of Islamic finance in Pakistan, highlighting the growth of Islamic financial institutions, partnership-based financing models, Islamic finance education, and the importance of practice-oriented case studies. The presentation also discussed the potential of Islamic finance to support a more equitable, participatory, and socially oriented financial system.
The program provided a platform for knowledge and experience sharing among researchers, industry professionals, graduate students, and participants interested in understanding Pakistan’s Islamic finance experience from a comparative perspective.
