Webinar Held on Governance, Audit, and Accountability in Malaysia’s Islamic Finance Ecosystem
In a webinar organized by IHU CIEF and the Department of Economics, Prof. Zurina Shafii, Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Iqmal Hisham Kamaruddin, and Dr. Wan A’tirah Mahyudin from USIM discussed governance, audit, and accountability mechanisms in Malaysia’s Islamic finance ecosystem.

The webinar titled “Governance, Audit, and Accountability in Malaysia’s Islamic Finance Ecosystem”, co-organized by the Center for Applied Research in Islamic Economics and Finance and the Department of Economics at Ibn Haldun University, was held online on Friday, June 19, 2026. The webinar featured Prof. Zurina Shafii, Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Iqmal Hisham Kamaruddin, and Dr. Wan A’tirah Mahyudin from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) as speakers.

Rather than focusing on the general historical development of Islamic finance in Malaysia, the webinar examined the governance, audit, assurance, and accountability mechanisms that support the institutional credibility of Malaysia’s Islamic finance ecosystem. The session addressed Shariah governance, Shariah audit, compliance processes, institutional transparency, and accountability in Islamic financial institutions.

Prof. Zurina Shafii discussed the role of Shariah governance and assurance mechanisms in strengthening institutional credibility within Malaysia’s Islamic finance ecosystem. Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Iqmal Hisham Kamaruddin focused on Shariah governance and assurance in public trust entities. Dr. Wan A’tirah Mahyudin addressed Shariah governance, compliance, and audit mechanisms in the cooperative sector.

The webinar aimed to contribute to a deeper understanding of Islamic finance not only through products and market development, but also through governance quality, audit infrastructure, and accountability standards. It provided a platform for knowledge and experience sharing among researchers, industry professionals, graduate students, and participants interested in the institutional foundations of Islamic finance.
