The Center for Applied Research in Islamic Economics and Finance and the Department of Economics at Ibn Haldun University are pleased to invite you to our upcoming webinar titled “The Development of Islamic Finance in Pakistan”, featuring Prof. Shafiullah Jan.
This webinar will explore the historical development of Islamic finance in Pakistan, its institutional and regulatory infrastructure, the transformation of Islamic banking and capital markets, and the country’s current directions in Islamic finance. The Pakistan experience will be discussed not only in terms of product and market development, but also with reference to institutionalization, education, research, participatory financing models, and the broader perspective of Islamic economics.
Pakistan has been undergoing a significant transformation in Islamic banking and finance in recent years. The growing share of Islamic banking institutions within the banking system, increasing demand for Shariah-compliant financial products, and ongoing debates on transition toward a fully Islamic financial structure make the Pakistan experience an important case for comparative Islamic finance studies.
Our speaker, Prof. Shafiullah Jan, is affiliated with the Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences), Peshawar. Through his academic and institutional work, including his engagement with the Centre for Excellence in Islamic Finance (CEIF), he has contributed to Islamic finance education, research, and sectoral capacity development in Pakistan.
Prof. Jan’s academic work focuses on Islamic finance, Islamic banking, participatory finance, Islamic development, and Islamic moral economy. His co-authored book with Prof. Mehmet Asutay, “A Model for Islamic Development”, contributes to discussions on Islamic development and Islamic moral economy.
The program aims to provide a platform for knowledge and experience sharing among researchers, industry professionals, graduate students, and participants interested in understanding Pakistan’s Islamic finance experience from a comparative perspective.
